About the treatment
What a Hydro Facial actually is
A Hydro Facial replaces the three things a facial normally does by hand — scrubbing, squeezing and layering on cream — with one wand that uses fluid and controlled suction instead. Cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection all happen in a single appointment.
Nothing abrasive touches the skin. The exfoliation is done by liquid, the extraction by vacuum, and the serums are pushed in while the pores are still open. That combination is why there is no peeling afterwards and no recovery window — the surface is never injured, only cleared.
The reason we lean on it so heavily at our Pembina Highway clinic is simple: it is the only resurfacing treatment that leaves the skin wetter than it found it. In a city where the winter air holds almost no moisture at all, that matters more than it does anywhere else in the country.
The barrier problem
Why Winnipeg skin behaves differently
Every Canadian city has a dry winter. Winnipeg has a different order of magnitude, and it changes what your skin can tolerate.
At −30 the air is close to empty
Cold air holds almost no water vapour. Bring it indoors and heat it to twenty degrees and the relative humidity collapses — often into single digits. Your skin is then losing water to the room, all day, for five straight months.
A damaged barrier cannot be scrubbed
Once the barrier is compromised, the usual answers make it worse. Scrubs, strong acids and retinoids all remove more of what is already too thin. This is the trap most people are in by February, and it is why they stop treating their skin at exactly the point it needs help.
The prairie wind finishes the job
Wind strips the thin lipid film that holds water in. Add a walk from the car park at Portage and Main and you have mechanical damage on top of dehydration — which is why so much Winnipeg skin is both flaky and reactive at once.
Summer swings the other way
Humid prairie summers push oil production up and clog pores that spent the winter dry. Skin here has to cope with two opposite problems a year, which is a real argument for a treatment that can be adjusted rather than a fixed routine.
Skin flaky and tight, and everything you try makes it worse?
How it works
What it does to your skin
Three passes with the wand, each doing something the previous one made possible.
Cleanse and loosen
A blend of cleansing and mild exfoliating fluid is drawn across the skin, dissolving the dead surface layer. Because it is liquid rather than grit, nothing is dragged and nothing is scratched — the distinction that makes it usable on winter skin.
Extract by vacuum
The wand switches to gentle suction and draws out the oil, dead cells and blackheads sitting in the pores, while hydrating fluid keeps everything soft on the way through. No pressure, no squeezing, no marks left behind.
Fuse the serums in
With the pores clear the skin will actually absorb, so this is the moment the hyaluronic acid, peptides and antioxidants go in. This step is where the plumpness comes from, and it is the one your bathroom shelf cannot replicate.
Indications
What is it good for?
Dehydration and congestion above all — and in this climate those two turn up together far more often than they do apart.
Everything else we offer is listed on our Winnipeg clinic page.
Have a concern and you are not sure this is the right treatment for it?
Being straight with you
What one session will and will not do
This treatment is genuinely good at a specific set of things, and genuinely will not touch others. Worth knowing which is which before you book.
It will clear your pores properly
Blackheads and congestion respond to a single session, visibly. The suction reaches what washing does not, and that part of the result is immediate rather than cumulative.
It will rehydrate for about a week
Skin holds the change for five to seven days. Longer if your home routine supports it, shorter if you are in dry indoor air all day and using nothing. That is a limitation of physics, not of the treatment.
It will not lift an indented scar
Nothing that works on the surface will. Scarring is a structural problem in the dermis and needs microneedling, which rebuilds from underneath rather than clearing from above.
It will not clear deep pigment
Surface dullness lifts. Sun spots and melasma sit lower and need repeated resurfacing — that is what an AFA peel is for. We will say so rather than sell you a course that cannot reach it.

Getting ready
Pre & post treatment
Short on both sides. The aftercare here is about not undoing the hydration you just paid for.
Before your appointment
- Arrive clean: a completely make-up-free face.
- Pause strong actives: no retinoids, AHA/BHA acids or aggressive exfoliants for three to five days.
- No overlapping procedures: no peel, microdermabrasion or laser treatment in the week before.
- Mind the sun: no sunburn or tanning for several days prior.
- Tell us: active breakouts, sensitivity or anything new in your routine.
After your appointment
- Expect a glow, not a recovery — refreshed, hydrated, no peeling.
- Gentle products only for three to five days, fragrance-free.
- Hold the actives through that same window.
- SPF every morning, including through the winter — prairie snow glare is real UV.
- No heat: skip saunas, hot showers, heavy sweating and facial massage for 24 to 48 hours.
Results
Hydro Facial before and after
A real client at You Glow Aesthetics. What changes is clarity and plumpness — the surface stops scattering light and starts reflecting it.

Individual results vary with skin type, age and how consistently you treat. Monthly sessions build on each other; a single visit gives you about a week.
