Laser tattoo removal is a cosmetic procedure that uses laser technology to break down the ink particles in a tattoo, allowing the body’s natural processes to gradually eliminate the tattoo.
The laser emits pulses of light that are absorbed by the tattoo ink. The energy from the laser breaks down the ink particles into smaller fragments.
Laser tattoo removal is suitable for various tattoo colors, but some ink colors may be more challenging to remove. It is generally more effective for individuals with lighter skin tones. Laser tattoo removal allows for the gradual fading of the tattoo over multiple sessions.
At You Glow Aesthetics, we want to make sure you get the absolute best results from your session. Follow our simple care guidelines below to maximize your treatment
Sun Care: Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanners on the tattoo area for 2–4 weeks prior.
Prep Skin: Arrive with clean skin, completely free of lotions, creams, perfume, or makeup on the tattoo.
Shave Area: If there is hair over the tattoo, shave the area completely 24 hours before your session.
Avoid Aspirin: Refrain from taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or blood-thinning supplements for 24–48 hours beforehand to reduce bruising risk.
Sensations: Mild redness, swelling, blistering, or a temporary “sunburn” feeling in the treated area is normal and a sign of healing.
Keep Clean: Gently wash the area with mild soap and water daily. Keep it covered with a thin layer of recommended healing ointment and a sterile bandage for the first 3 days.
Do Not Pick: Never pop blisters, scratch, or pick at any scabs that form, as this can cause scarring or infection.
Avoid Heat: Skip hot tubs, swimming pools, saunas, and intense workouts for 48 hours to prevent infection and irritation.
Sun Defense: Protect the healing area from the sun by keeping it covered or applying a high-SPF mineral sunscreen once the skin is closed.
Most clients describe the sensation as being similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin. While there is some discomfort, the procedure is very quick. We provide post-treatment instructions, such as using cool compresses, to help manage any temporary tenderness or warmth in the area.
Laser tattoo removal is a gradual process. The number of sessions depends on the size of the tattoo, the type of ink used, the depth of the ink, and your skin tone. Most clients require multiple sessions to achieve their desired level of fading or removal.
While the laser is effective for many colors, some pigments are easier to remove than others. Darker inks like black and dark blue typically respond best, whereas certain bright colors may be more challenging and require more sessions to fade significantly.
No, the results are cumulative. You will notice the tattoo gradually fading over the weeks following your treatment as your body continues to flush out the fragmented ink particles.
