About the treatment
Two masks, in a deliberate order
The name is theatrical and the treatment is not. It is a resurfacing mask followed by a cooling one, and almost everything people like about it comes from the sequence rather than from either half on its own.
The first mask is the active one. It carries a concentrated blend built to loosen the dead surface layer and push circulation up hard. You feel it: a building warmth, then a tingle that peaks and holds. That sensation is the treatment working, and it is also exactly why it is timed by someone watching your skin rather than a clock on the wall.
The second mask does the opposite. It cools, calms and floods the surface with moisture while the barrier is at its most receptive, which is the moment immediately after the first mask comes off. Take that step away and you have a mild peel with a red face. Keep it, and you have the finish people book this for.
What it actually delivers
An occasion facial, and we mean that literally
This is the one treatment on our menu where booking it for a date is the correct use rather than an impatient one.
The glow is immediate
You walk out with it. Most facials ask you to wait a day for the redness to settle before anything looks better; this one is at its best within a couple of hours and holds for several days.
Make-up sits differently
Because the dead layer has been lifted and the surface rehydrated in the same appointment, foundation stops catching on dry patches. This is the practical reason it earned its reputation.
Nothing to hide afterwards
No flaking to manage, no visible marks, no week of avoiding people. Some pinkness for an hour or two is the whole of it.
Something coming up you want to look well for?
Timing it
When to book it in a Vancouver week
The answer is not the morning of. It is close, but not that close, and the gap matters.
Two to three days ahead
Long enough for any flush to be gone entirely, close enough that the result is still at its peak. Booking it the same day is the single most common mistake people make with this facial.
Never for the first time before something important
Skin is individual. If you have not had this before, have it once with nothing in the diary, see how yours reacts, then book the second one for the occasion.
Wedding season runs long here
Vancouver weddings cluster from late spring through September, and so do these appointments. If you are in a party, a slot two or three days before the date is worth holding early.
We are open Sundays
Which covers a lot of Saturday events. Our West Broadway clinic runs Tuesday to Sunday and is closed Mondays and Saturdays, so plan around that rather than assuming.
Indications
What is it good for?
Surface complaints, quickly. Dullness, rough texture, congestion and the flat look skin gets when the dead layer has built up.
Deep pigment, indented scarring and broken capillaries are not on this list and will not respond. For those, see pulse light or microneedling. Everything we run in Kitsilano is listed on the Vancouver clinic page.

Choosing between them
Fire & Ice or Exfoliation for Clear Skin
They come from the same professional range and we run both in Kitsilano, so this is the comparison people actually need. It comes down to a date versus a direction.
Fire & Ice
- One appointment, aimed at how you look in the next few days
- Best for dullness, roughness and a flat, tired surface
- You feel it working — heat, then a strong tingle
- The reliable choice when there is something in the diary
Exfoliation for Clear Skin
- A course, aimed at how your skin behaves in two months
- Best for congestion, blackheads and skin that keeps breaking out
- Calmer in the chair, and repeatable more often
- The better choice if the problem comes back every month
If acids have gone badly for you before, say so at the consultation. The clear-skin route is the more forgiving of the two, and we would rather move you than push on.

Where this facial is the wrong call
It is popular, which means it gets recommended to people it does not suit. Here is when we will say no.
Skin that is broken or inflamed right now
Active cystic acne, eczema in flare, a cold sore, a fresh sunburn or anything weeping. The first mask on any of those is a bad afternoon and a worse week.
If you are on isotretinoin or recently were
Skin stays fragile for months after stopping. Tell us; we will wait rather than work around it.
As a fix for lines or sagging
Nothing here reaches the depth where those live. Expect a smoother, brighter version of your own face for a week, not a structural change.
As a monthly habit for everyone
For some skins it is a good rhythm. For others every four to six weeks is already too often, and the barrier starts to complain. We would rather see you less and keep your skin intact.
Getting ready
Pre & post treatment
Most of the preparation is about what you take off your skin in the days before.
The week before
- Stop retinoids five days out and acids three days out. This is the instruction people skip and then regret.
- No waxing or threading on the face for a week beforehand.
- Do not arrive tanned or burnt, including from a booth.
- Tell us about cold sores. Heat and exfoliation together can wake one up, and there is a simple way to plan around it.
The days after
- Pink and warm for an hour or two, occasionally a little longer on fair skin.
- Nothing active for three days — cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen, and that is all.
- Sunscreen every morning. Freshly exfoliated skin burns faster, and the grey here hides more UV than people assume.
- Light flaking around day two or three on some skins. Leave it alone rather than scrubbing it off.
Happy with all of that?
