About the treatment
Two different problems wearing the same jawline
A jawline stops looking sharp for two quite separate reasons, and they are frequently confused. One is volume: a pad of fat sitting beneath the chin and along the jaw, filling in the angle where the face should meet the neck. The other is support: collagen and elastin thinning until the skin no longer holds the edge it used to, so the line softens and the corners drift downwards.
They need different things done to them. Reducing fat under skin that has already lost its hold can make the slackness more obvious rather than less, and tightening skin over a pad of fat that is still there rarely changes much. Which is why the appointment starts with working out which one you have, and in most people it is some of each.
At our Ranchlands Boulevard clinic in northwest Calgary the answer is a combination: controlled heat to provoke collagen in the skin along the jaw and down the neck, and ultrasound-based fat reduction where there is a defined pad underneath. Nothing is injected and nothing is cut.
How it works
What we use, and what we do not
Plenty of clinics use the phrase jawline lift for procedures that are nothing like each other. Here is exactly what it means with us.
Controlled heat, for the skin
Energy delivered into the deeper layers warms them enough to trigger a repair response. Existing collagen contracts a little immediately; new collagen is laid down over the months that follow. The second part is the one that matters, and it is why this is judged on a long timescale.
Ultrasound, for the fat
Where there is a defined pad under the chin, low-frequency ultrasound destabilises the fat cells and your lymphatic system clears the contents over the following days. It is the same approach we use on the body, applied to a small and fussy area.
No needles of any kind
We do not inject fillers, we do not inject fat-dissolving compounds, and we do not place threads. If that is the route you want, it is a medical procedure and you should be having the conversation with a physician rather than with us.
No surgery and no anaesthetic
Nothing is cut, so there is nothing to heal. You may be warm and slightly pink for an hour. Everything else about your day carries on as normal.
Not sure whether your jawline needs fat reduced or skin tightened?
Candidacy
Who gets a result worth paying for
This treatment has a fairly narrow sweet spot, and being honest about its edges is more useful to you than a page of enthusiasm.
Early to moderate softening
Somebody who can see the line beginning to blur, usually from their late thirties onwards, with skin that still has some spring in it. This is where non-surgical work makes a visible difference.
A pad you can take hold of
If there is a discrete pocket under the chin that pinches between your fingers and stays put whether your head is up or down, that part is treatable and the change is measurable.
Advanced laxity is beyond us
Where skin has genuinely let go and hangs in a fold, tightening will make a modest difference at best. We would rather say that than sell you a course. A surgical consultation is the honest referral.
Bone is bone
A naturally set-back chin gives a shallow angle between neck and jaw regardless of what sits on it, and the sharp jawline people bring in on their phones is usually a matter of skeletal structure and camera lens. No treatment here changes either.
Indications
What is it good for?
Definition along the jaw, the angle beneath it, and the quality of the skin covering both.
Where laxity extends across the cheeks and down the neck rather than sitting at the jaw, face and neck tightening covers the whole area, and fat elsewhere on the body is laser lipo cavitation. Everything available in northwest Calgary is on our Calgary NW clinic page.

Why here
Planning a course around a Calgary year
This is a treatment measured in months rather than appointments, so when you start it and how reliably you attend both matter.
We are open weekdays only
Monday to Friday, finishing in the late afternoon. A course of several appointments needs to fit around that, and it is worth working out before you commit rather than discovering it in week three.
Dry air is working against your elasticity
Skin here spends most of the year short of water, and dehydrated skin both looks slacker and holds less well. What you do about moisture between appointments genuinely affects what the treatment can achieve.
Autumn is the sensible start
Treated skin should be kept out of strong sun, and collagen takes months to build. Beginning in September or October means the rebuilding happens across the covered months and you are seeing the result by spring.
Sun on snow still counts
A day in the mountains in March delivers more ultraviolet to your face than most people credit. If you ski, tell us, and use a proper sunscreen on the treated area rather than the one you keep in the car.
Wondering whether now is the right time to begin?
Getting ready
Pre & post treatment
Clean skin and no recent sun going in. Hydration, patience and sunscreen coming out.
Before each appointment
- Stop retinoids and acids three to five days ahead, across the whole lower face and neck.
- No sun, sunbed or self-tanner for two weeks on the area being treated.
- Arrive with a bare face and neck — no make-up, no serum, no sunscreen, no jewellery at the throat.
- Tell us about recent cosmetic procedures, any injectable work, dental surgery or implants in the area.
- Drink properly beforehand, and mention thyroid conditions or anything affecting the lymph nodes in the neck.
Afterwards
- Warmth and a flush along the jaw for an hour or two. Occasionally a little tenderness the next day.
- Keep drinking water all week — the clearing of anything released happens across days, not minutes.
- No heat for 48 hours: sauna, steam, hot tub, hard training.
- Broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, on the neck as well as the face. People always forget the neck.
- Take a profile photograph before the first session. Collagen change is far too slow to see in a bathroom mirror.
Results
Jawline and lower face before and after
A You Glow Aesthetics client photographed during a course. The change is in the texture and firmness along the cheek and jaw rather than a dramatic shift in shape, which is what this category of treatment honestly delivers.

Outcomes vary considerably with age, how much elasticity remains, how much of the fullness is fat, how many sessions are completed and what happens between them. This builds gradually and keeps developing for some months after the last appointment.
