About the treatment
Aimed at a pocket, not at a silhouette
This treatment exists for one specific situation: a defined deposit of fat, in a particular place, on somebody whose weight is otherwise where they want it. Booked for that, it does what it says. Booked as a route to losing weight, it disappoints everybody involved, and we would rather turn the booking down than take it.
The mechanism is borrowed from physics. Low-frequency ultrasound sent into the fat layer creates alternating pressure that forms and collapses microscopic bubbles against the walls of the fat cells. The frequency is chosen so that only fat is affected — muscle, blood vessels and skin sit outside its range. A laser working alongside it encourages more of the released contents out of the cells that have opened.
What comes out then has to be transported and processed by your own body over the following days. That is the reason appointments at our Wynford Drive clinic in North York sit about a week apart, and the reason a course is measured in months rather than weeks.
Candidacy
Three things that predict a good outcome
We can tell within a few minutes of a consultation whether somebody is likely to be pleased at the end of this. It comes down to these.
Your weight has stopped moving
Steady for a few months, in either direction. If you are still actively losing, wait — you may not need this at all, and treating a changing shape makes the result impossible to read.
You can point at the problem
A discrete area you can take hold of, that has not shifted with anything you have tried. Vague dissatisfaction with your body is a genuine feeling and it is not what this treats.
You will finish the course
Weekly appointments across two or three months, plus real attention to what you drink. The clients who get the least out of this are the ones who came four times and drifted.
Not sure whether you are a good candidate?
Why here
Fitting a weekly course into a Toronto year
The scheduling is the hard part of this treatment, not the appointments. Four things our Toronto clients routinely run into.
January is a sensible start
Not because of resolutions, but because the calendar is empty and the weather keeps people in town. A course begun in the new year usually runs without a single missed week.
Summer weekends break the rhythm
A cottage every Friday from June onwards is lovely and it is incompatible with a weekly appointment. If that is your summer, start the course in the spring and finish it before the season opens.
People book for a date too late
Wedding season here runs from May well into October, and we are asked for a course in six weeks more often than we would like. Count backwards: eight to twelve weekly sessions plus a month to settle.
Treated skin and a Toronto summer
The area needs sunscreen and no burn between appointments. That is trivial from October to April and takes actual attention in July, particularly on the stomach.
Indications
What is it good for?
Localised deposits on the abdomen, flanks, back and thighs that have not responded to anything else.
Under the chin has its own dedicated page, shaping the buttocks belongs to the non-surgical butt lift, and tone rather than volume is muscle sculpting. The full list for north Toronto is on our Toronto clinic page.
One area that has refused to change no matter what you do?
Being straight with you
Four things we will not tell you
That the scale will move
Fat is light. A visible change to the line of a waist can happen while the number barely shifts, and clients who measure the wrong thing talk themselves out of a result they actually got. Use a tape measure and a photograph.
That it tightens loose skin
It does not, and reducing what sits under slack skin can occasionally make the slack more apparent. If elasticity is already a concern, that is a conversation to have before the first session, not during the fourth.
That it compares to surgery
Liposuction removes a volume of fat in one operation, with anaesthetic, recovery and risk attached. This removes a fraction of that, gradually, with none of those. Both are legitimate; they are not the same thing, and nobody should pretend otherwise.
That the schedule is flexible
The week between sessions is roughly how long your body needs to clear the last one. Stacking appointments does not accelerate anything; it puts energy into an area that has not finished processing.

Getting ready
Pre & post treatment
Fluid intake is not filler advice on this page. Your body is doing the disposal, and it does it in water.
Ahead of each session
- Increase your water from two days out, not from the morning of. Nothing else you do affects the outcome as much.
- Eat lightly beforehand and avoid a heavy meal in the hours before.
- Leave the area bare: no body lotion, no oil, no self-tanner.
- No actives or scrubs on that skin for three days, and no sunburn on it at all.
- Tell us about pregnancy, a pacemaker, implants, liver or kidney conditions before you book rather than at the door.
In the days after
- A warm, faintly buzzing feeling in the area that passes within the hour. Occasionally mild redness.
- Keep drinking through the whole week. The clearing runs the entire gap between appointments.
- Movement helps: a walk, a swim, anything that keeps circulation up on the day of and the day after.
- No sauna, steam room or hot tub for two days, and go easy on alcohol.
- Cover the area in the sun or use sunscreen on it until the course is finished.
Results
Laser lipo cavitation before and after
A You Glow Aesthetics client, lower abdomen, before starting and after completing a course. The waistline is where to look; body size is not what has changed.

What any individual sees depends on the area treated, how many sessions are completed, fluid intake across the course and whether body weight stays level afterwards. Measure and photograph at the start, then again a month after the last appointment.
