Quick Answer

What is the difference between the cavitation and the laser in a lipo treatment?

They are two technologies working on the same area. Ultrasonic cavitation sends low-frequency sound waves into the fat layer, creating pressure changes that form and collapse microscopic bubbles against the cell walls until the membranes give way. Laser energy is then applied to drive more of the contents out. Your body clears the released fat over the following days. The two together do more than either alone.

About the treatment

What laser lipo cavitation actually is

Two technologies working on the same area. Ultrasonic cavitation sends low-frequency sound waves into the fat layer, creating rapid pressure changes that form and collapse microscopic bubbles against the fat cell walls. The membranes give way and the cells release what they were storing.

Laser energy is applied alongside it to push more of the stored fatty acids out of the disrupted cells. What is released then enters the lymphatic system, and your body processes and eliminates it over the following days the way it handles fat from any other source.

The skin above is unaffected, nothing is cut and there is no anaesthetic. A handpiece moves over the area, you feel a warm massage, and a lot of clients hear a faint high-pitched ringing — that is the ultrasound itself and it is entirely normal. At our Ottawa clinic on McCarthy Road this is used on the abdomen, flanks, thighs, upper arms and back.

How it works

What actually happens to the fat

Three stages, and the important one happens after you have gone home.

01

Sound waves disrupt the cell

Ultrasound at the right frequency creates pressure changes that fat cells cannot withstand. Their membranes fail and the contents are released into the surrounding fluid. Surrounding tissue — skin, muscle, blood vessels — is unaffected, because it does not respond to that frequency the same way.

02

Laser drives more out

Laser energy applied over the same area increases how much of the stored fatty acid actually leaves the disrupted cells. This is the part that makes the combined treatment more effective than cavitation alone.

03

Your body clears it out

The released contents travel through the lymphatic system and are metabolised. This takes days, which is exactly why sessions are spaced about a week apart — your body needs that time to process one session before the next.

Being straight with you

What it will and will not do

Body contouring attracts more overselling than any other category we offer. Here is where the line actually sits.

It is for localised fat, not weight loss

Cavitation works on a specific pocket — a lower stomach, love handles, the outside of the thighs. It is not a weight-loss treatment and it will not change the scale. If overall weight is the goal, this is the wrong tool and we will tell you so.

It needs a real course

Some people see a subtle change after one to three sessions, but a result worth having usually takes six to twelve, about a week apart. Anyone promising a transformation in two sessions is not being straight with you.

Hydration is part of the treatment

Everything released has to be carried away and metabolised, and that runs on water. Clients who drink properly through a course get visibly better results than those who do not. It is the single easiest thing you control.

The cells are gone, but the rest are not

Disrupted fat cells do not return. The ones still there can expand, so holding a stable weight is what protects the result over the long term.

Indications

What is it good for?

Stubborn, localised deposits that have not responded to diet or training.

For under the chin specifically we use a dedicated double chin removal protocol. Everything else is on our Ottawa clinic page.

Why here

Timing a course in Ottawa

A six to twelve session course spaced weekly is a two to three month commitment. When you start it makes a practical difference.

Winter is the sensible run-up

Starting in January or February means the course completes before the weather turns. Given that results build for weeks after the final session, a winter start is what puts you where you want to be by May.

Weekly appointments have to be realistic

Sessions about a week apart only work if you can actually get here through an Ottawa winter. We would rather set a schedule you can keep than book a course that stalls in the middle, which is where results are lost.

Hydration is harder in winter

People drink noticeably less water in cold weather, and this treatment depends on the lymphatic system doing its job. It is worth being deliberate about it for the duration of the course.

Nothing about it is seasonal otherwise

No sun sensitivity, no visible marks and nothing anyone can see through clothing. Unlike facial treatments, there is no cosmetic reason to avoid any part of the year.

Getting ready

Pre & post treatment

Water on both sides. It is not incidental advice here — it is how the treatment finishes its work.

Before your appointment

  • Hydrate properly in the days beforehand, and eat sensibly.
  • Nothing heavy or greasy to eat on the day of the session.
  • Hold actives on the treatment area — no retinoids or exfoliating scrubs for about three days.
  • No sunburn or tanning on the zone being treated.
  • Arrive clean: no lotion or oil on the skin, and wear loose clothing.

After your appointment

  • Warmth, tingling or mild tenderness in the area is expected and short-lived.
  • Drink plenty of water — this is the step that clears what was released.
  • Avoid heat: no intense exercise, saunas or steam rooms for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Hold actives on the area for at least three days.
  • Cover it in the sun, or use sunscreen on the treated zone.

Laser lipo cavitation before and after

Individual results vary with the area treated, the number of sessions completed, hydration and whether weight stays stable. This is a course of treatments, not a single visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

A warm massage, essentially. The handpiece moves over the area and you feel heat and pressure. Many clients hear a faint high-pitched ringing during the session – that is the ultrasound and it is completely normal, not a sign anything is wrong.

Localised, stubborn fat that resists diet and exercise: the abdomen, flanks or love handles, thighs, upper arms and the back. It is not a treatment for general weight loss – it works on specific pockets, not on overall body fat.

Some people see subtle changes after one to three, but a proper result usually takes six to twelve sessions spaced about a week apart. The spacing matters: your body needs that week to process and clear what the previous session released.

The fat cells disrupted during treatment are gone for good. The cells that remain can still expand, though, so holding a stable weight afterwards is what keeps the result. We would rather say that plainly than have you expect it to be permanent regardless.
